John McCain Flashback: Never Heard “LGBT” Before
By Michael Crawford
It is no secret that John McCain is completely out of touch with mainstream America. I mean seriously he can’t remember how many houses he and his wife own? But I had forgotten about this tidbit from Andy Towle a while back:
I had only seen one portion of the McCain Concord High School student exchange from yesterday, and I thought that was bad. And no, I’m not even referring to the part where he called one student a “little jerk”. Somehow, I missed this priceless moment.
“Another student asked McCain what he would do on ‘LGBT’ issues and on ‘workers’ rights?’ McCain, paused, confused by the question. Someone in the crowd shouted out ‘lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender.’ ‘I had not heard that phrase before,’ McCain said of LGBT.”
Then again, I’m not surprised at the answer, coming from a man worried about the effect of “gay sweaters” who is not sure if condoms help stop the spread of HIV.
Not sure if condoms help stop the spread of HIV?
Had never heard the acronym “LGBT?”
Sweaters with a sexual orientation?
So despite an army of advisers, it may be that he doesn’t get issues that even high school students understand, but McCain sure does have a strong record of opposition to LGBT civil rights.

Well it is a pretty awful acronym. Not to defend McCain, nor say I disagree with any of the acronym’s inclusiveness, referring to ourselves by an acronym is pretty clinical and dehumanizing. I hope we come up with something better soon.

I say let’s focus on electing an president who will help advance our fight for equality and we can debate the acronym later. If John McCain is elected, we can kiss any progress at the federal level goodbye for at least the next four and possibly eight years.

If the democrats cannot win this election then we have lost at lot more than any progress for the next 4 years (or 8). If they lose they will have lost all their credibility… if they cannot win with an unpopular war in progress; a sitting president’s approval rating below 25%, a terrible economy, and McCain representing another 4 years of the same crap… they all incompetent and we need a change to a new party to support.

John McCain might have been a good US President but the people in the US does not need another Republican, that is why he lost in the election. Obama perfectly states the need of the people in his campaign slogan and that is “change we can”.

It’s been crystal clear for a very long time that Obama has a core set of beliefs that he religiously (no pun intended) sticks to. The issue here is, he doesn’t seem to recognize that his ideas have destroyed everything they have touched time and time again throughout history. It’s alright… if we survive until next year, the hard road to Reconstruction -I use that word on purpose- can begin.
