I don’t know why I’m continuously amazed at the sheer chutzpah of the Republican ticket. While the dastardly duo has clearly sunk to the lowest possible depths in an attempt to keep control of the country, the lengths they are willing to go still shocks me.

This latest news that Sarah Palin is refusing to cooperate with the bipartisan investigation into her alleged improper use of the Governor’s office to demand her ex-brother-in-law’s termination from the state troopers. When her public safety commissioner refused to fire the trooper, she canned him instead.

She’s claiming that the investigation has been “tainted and run by partisan individuals” because state senator Hollis French, the Democratic lawmaker managing the investigation is an Obama supporter. Keep in mind that the legislature deliberately made the investigation non-partisan, Palin supported the investigation originally (while suddenly finding evidence that her office just might have tried to influence the termination), and the person investigating her is an independent counsel.

Of course, the McCain ticket has gotten awfully good at lying lately; even Karl Rove is calling them out for lying to the public. He’s not the only one though…

After Palin’s interview with Charlie Gibson of ABC news last week, former Commissioner Monegan also spoke out about Palin’s untruths:

The campaign also disputed recent comments Monegan made to ABC News, in which he accused Palin of lying during her wide-ranging interview with ABC’s Charles Gibson last week.

Palin had told Gibson, “I never pressured him to hire or fire anybody.” She said she welcomed the investigation and did not worry about the subpoena of her husband, Todd Palin.

“There’s nothing to hide,” she said. “I know that Todd, too, never pressured Commissioner Monegan. He did, very appropriately, though, bring up those concerns about a trooper (Wooten) who was making threats against the first family, and that is appropriate.”

Monegan rebutted Palin’s comments, saying, “She’s not telling the truth when she told ABC neither she nor her husband pressured me to fire Trooper Wooten,” according to an interview posted on the ABC News.com. “And she’s not telling the truth to the media about her reasons for firing me.”

I guess if I were trying to win the election based on a house of cards with a foundation of lies and manipulation, I’d be trying to stall the results of an investigation that could lead to my impeachment. But then again, I wouldn’t have tried to get revenge against my ex-brother-in-law via the governor’s office. I’d hate to have an October surprise when I’ve worked so hard to cover my (moose) tracks.

You have to give the McCain campaign this one small bit… They aren’t lying when they say their ticket would bring “change” to the White House. If they win, their administration would be even more slimy and deceitful than the current corrupt occupant. I used to think that would be impossible; now I’m worried that it might happen.

As PT Barnum said, “There’s a sucker born every minute.” The McCain/Palin ticket is hoping those suckers will vote Republican. They’re playing the country for fools.
